Defence: Anton ‘Viking’ Panchuk's story
16.04.2023
This is Anton ‘Viking’ Panchuk, the division commander of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade Kholodnyi Yar, which is currently defending Ukraine near Bakhmut.
A military man who admires Mark Hamill's films, now they talked via Zoom.
"Working with drones is currently our priority. They help detect enemy infantry units and their firepower and guide our artillery on enemy positions,"
says Viking.
Anton has been in the war for nine years. At first, he served in the Right Sector Ukrainian Volunteer Corps, and in 2016 he joined the 93rd Brigade. His military service was due to end on February 28, 2022. But a full-scale invasion began, and the fighter postponed plans for rest until the final victory. Currently, his Brigade is engaged in fierce battles in Bakhmut.
"It is tough now. These are some superpowers of superhumans. But morale is as strong as ever. The fighting continues, no one retreats,"
says Anton.
After the war, he is going to fulfill his dreams: to see whales in the ocean and Norwegian fjords, to skydive, and to attend music festivals. But, for now, he emphasizes the need for support behind frontlines:
"I would like to appeal to everyone with a large audience and influence. All these resources must be directed towards victory. And then, everyone will celebrate the next Easter and other holidays with their families in their homes, in their free country."
