Denys had been working in the patrol police for 5 years. Three weeks after the start of the full-scale invasion, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In February 2023, he performed a combat mission in Donetsk Oblast and, together with his brothers-in-arms, came under artillery fire and was seriously wounded.

I remember everything. Severe pain. The first feeling was that my leg was torn off. And an instant thought: how will I drive a car now? I was very worried about it.

Denys had a badly damaged bone, numerous tissue fragments and a torn muscle. In order to save the limb, doctors used high-precision equipment — an X-ray machine with a C-Arm, purchased with donations from platform donors. The soldier underwent several successful surgeries, including bone grafting surgery.

After anesthesia, I woke up at night. My first thought: what about my leg? I reached my leg with my hand, felt the fixation rod and calmed down a little — it’s there.

Denys has been receiving treatment for over a year. He underwent 15 surgeries on his leg alone. Now, he is waiting for the bone to grow completely so that  doctors will be able to remove part of the artificial structures from his leg. The screws that hold the bone in the middle will stay with the man for life. However, Denys already walks without crutches and can even drive a car.
