American historian, writer and professor at Yale University, Timothy Snyder, has devoted his life to studying the history of Central and Eastern Europe. He often focuses on the subjects of totalitarianism, nationalism, and the Holocaust.
Snyder knows better than anyone what colossal damages the nazi and soviet regimes have inflicted upon all of Europe, and especially upon Ukraine. He is not afraid of making comparisons to contemporary events; the historian remains one of the main voices of support for Ukraine on the global stage. It was Snyder who was the first in American publishing to brand the russian regime as fascist.
In his works, Timothy Snyder explains, among other things, the historical reasons for russian aggression. He has no doubts that Ukraine will win.
We highly recommend viewing his Yale lecture course: The Making of Modern Ukraine. The historian has published it for free on YouTube.
In September 2022, Snyder visited Ukraine in person. He traveled to Chernihiv Oblast, speaking to locals whose homes were destroyed by russian attacks.
In November 2022, Snyder joined the UNITED24 ambassador team. Like actor Mark Hamill, who is another ambassador, he concentrated his efforts on the Defense program of support.
“I am a historian and scientist, and in the future, I want to raise money for the restoration of libraries, schools and universities. But now we need to do something more urgent, which is to raise funds to help Ukraine defend itself against killer drones,”
Snyder said.
Timothy Snyder raised more than $5.5 million through the Safe Terrain project for robotic platforms and the Safe Skies project to help protect the sky from russian missiles and drones. He also completed a fundraiser for armored ambulances. Snyder has visited Ukraine multiple times, traveling to the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, and also visited an underground school in Zaporizhzhia.
In April 2023, at the initiative of Professor Timothy Snyder, UNITED24 ambassadors and other opinion leaders appealed to the U.S. Congress to provide Ukraine with all the assistance necessary. 10 days later, there was major news to celebrate — the U.S. House of Representatives voted to allocate more than $60 billion in aid to Ukraine.
