On June 9, 2023, Volodymyr started his usual work shift. He worked as a gas engineer, checking equipment on the street. Everything was calm until the attack on Kharkiv Oblast began.

I remember that I heard the sound of the shahed approaching, and then I woke up seven days later in the intensive care unit. The guys who were at work with me say that I called them and said: "I'm lying, I don't know where, I can't feel my legs." But I don't remember that. Then my colleagues found me on the road and called an ambulance.

In the hospital, Volodymyr was put into a medically induced coma to restrict his movement due to a fracture of the lumbar spine. He also had broken ribs and shoulder blades, as well as lung contusions.

The operation lasted three hours. The spinal fracture was repaired and fixed with a titanium structure. It is implanted directly into the vertebral bodies, so there is a high risk of injuring the spinal cord. To control the safety of the implantation, an X-ray unit with a С-Arm was used, which immediately displays the image on the monitor and shows everything in real time,

For the first two months after the surgery, Volodymyr could only lie down. He spent this time in intensive care, then rehabilitation.

When the structure was placed on the spine, the doctors began to lift. Relatives put me in a wheelchair so that I could at least sit. It's a little easier now. After the rehabilitation center, there is more independence. I can transfer myself, lie down, get up. And then everything depends only on me. Constant classes, the will to stand on one's feet, not to give up, to work, to exercise. This is the only way!
