Richard Branson becomes an Ambassador for the UNITED24 fundraising platform
10.04.2023 · Ambassadors
The Founder of the Virgin Group and Virgin Unite — the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson, met with the President of Ukraine today and joined the team of UNITED24 fundraising platform ambassadors.
On April 10, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Richard Branson in Kyiv. This was the second time the businessman has visited Ukraine after the full-scale invasion. Following the meeting, Branson announced his efforts to support Ukraine as an ambassador for UNITED24.
"Faced with this horrific war, Ukraine has become a beacon of determination and hope for the world. I’ve been in awe of the incredible commitment of the President and First Lady and the sheer courage of the Ukrainian people. So, it is a great honour for me to become an Ambassador for UNITED24. UNITED24 has quickly become a powerful force in Ukraine, raising funds to buy generators, ambulances, re-build bridges and help people receive lifesaving medical supplies. I look forward to using Virgin Unite’s global reach and networks to help support the great work UNITED24 is doing for the people of Ukraine",
Sir Richard Branson said.
"I'm glad you decided to become a UNITED24 ambassador. It is very important that famous and influential personalities keep joining this platform. One of our key tasks is to keep the world's focus on Russia's war against Ukraine, which has been going on for over a year. Additionally, there are other specific issues on which we can work together,"
— emphasized President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Branson has been consistently supporting Ukraine since 2014, advocating for its independence and territorial sovereignty. After the occupation of Crimea, he appealed to the international community and businesses to ensure that the United States and European Union treated the situation in Crimea as an urgent matter. In his role as Ambassador, Sir Richard will work with Virgin Unite’s partner organisations to understand what business leaders, in partnership with civil society and governments, can do to support Ukraine most effectively.
