Rebuild Ukraine: Kateryna's history

Kateryna had been saving money for six years to pursue her dream of becoming a homeowner. The dream came true; Kateryna's son and daughter were born and raised in the picturesque village of Buzova, Kyiv region, where she bought her apartment. On February 24, however, everything changed: the family had to flee the war with only a single bag in hand.

"When we returned to Buzova, it was hard to look at our house. There were holes from shells, collapsed walls, and surroundings filled with burned-out apartments.

We found shell fragments in our belongings and we were relieved that the apartment had not burned down.

One wall was displaced by a blast wave from a shell that hit the apartment above.

We want to return to the place we call home. We have no other place to live. We thank everyone who sees our story and wants to help."

Now, Kateryna's apartment is in a state of disrepair. She and her children live with their parents in the Zhytomyr Oblast, in a single-room apartment. We will do our best to get this wonderful family back home as soon as possible - to the 17-E building on Tsentralna Street they call home, in Buzova village.
