Permanent bridge crossing over the Inhulets irrigation system canal, which was destroyed in March 2022, has reopened in Mykolaiv Oblast. The bridge was rebuilt by soldiers of the 1st separate brigade named after Prince Lev of the State Transport Special Service of Ukraine. In total, 15 bridges in three oblasts of Ukraine have been restored via UNITED24 donors.
“Today, we are opening bridge crossing that will relieve the main highway to Mykolaiv-Kherson and help the community residents move freely in the district. We are now rebuilding the infrastructure to allow people to return home. We are grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Transport Special Service, and UNITED24 for their help”, said the Head of the Mykolaiv Oblast Military Administration, Vitalii Kim.
The bridge is 18 meters long. It stands on 10 concrete piles that can withstand a weight of up to 120 tons.
After the terrorist attack at Kakhovka HPP, two bridges with such a design, restored in the spring of 2023, remained underwater for more than 10 days due to the flooding of the Dnipro River. However, thanks to high-quality materials and the work of bridge builders, the bridges withstood and now continue to connect the banks and people.
During the construction of the bridge crossing, the State Special Transport Service used a bulldozer, an excavator, a tractor, a six-ton crane, and a road roller, also purchased with the funds of UNITED24 donors. An aqueduct was also built through the irrigation system.
