Michel Hazanavicius has become the first French ambassador for the UNITED24 fundraising platform. This was announced during a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"This is our first UNITED24 voice in France, and I believe that it is going to be a powerful one," said the President.
In his new role, the outstanding French film director will raise funds for the reconstruction of an apartment building in Irpin, located at 42 Davydchuk Street, which was destroyed by russian invaders. Thanks to his efforts, the residents of 130 apartments will be able to return to their homes.
In Kyiv, Hazanavicius met with another UNITED24 ambassador, Elina Svitolina. Together, they visited the capital's suburbs, where the restoration of homes under the Rebuild Ukraine program is in process. The director saw destroyed Irpin, places of mass burials of civilians in Bucha, and a 'graveyard' of civilian vehicles destroyed by russians, with his own eyes.
"Today I heard the tragic stories of Bucha, saw the destroyed homes in Irpin. But I also met so many inspiring, resilient people, who keep moving forward, stay optimistic, and overcome all these ordeals with incredible dignity. This is incredibly admirable. It is an honor for me to become a UNITED24 ambassador, and meet President Zelenskyy in person. I will do everything in my power for Ukraine and its victory," Hazanavicius said.
Michel Hazanavicius also took a walk through the center of Kyiv. The new UNITED24 ambassador was impressed by the beauty of the city:
"Kyiv is full of life; the spirit of freedom is in full swing everywhere. That makes capturing the city impossible."
Michel consistently supports Ukraine. On December 1, the director organized a charity auction, featuring lots provided by Tom Hanks, Catherine Deneuve, Alain Delon, Natalie Portman and Tom Bangalter from the legendary French electronic duo Daft Punk. Together, the celebrities have raised 250,000 euros. Hazanavicius has transferred half of these funds to restore the apartment building. After that, only 25,500 euros remains to complete the fundraiser.
