History:
Arnaud Stevins

I am a 54-year-old engineer from Brussels, specializing in AI. Russia’s attack on Ukraine astounded me and changed my life, even though I live thousands of miles away. Since March 2022, I have participated in several rallies in Belgium against the full-scale invasion. I was pleasantly surprised by the general level of support for Ukrainians here after Belgium decided to open its doors to refugees. I also wanted to help, so I put up two young refugees from Kyiv and Chernihiv in my house.

Fortunately, my two children supported me in this, and we all became good friends. One of the women spoke French, so she found a job in Brussels and is now helping new Ukrainian refugees settle in Belgium. The other one returned to Ukraine in August 2022 to complete her studies. We are currently hosting two friendly ladies and one very smart boy, who, after six months of studying in Belgium, became top of the class in the local school in Dutch (can you believe it?). At the same time, I started to study the Ukrainian language on my own, and now I practice every day at home.

I admire the resilience and dignity of the Ukrainian people, I am impressed by the courage and perseverance of your Armed Forces. I have been supporting you since the beginning of the war and will continue to do so until Ukraine regains its territorial integrity and becomes a prosperous state. I also hope that Ukraine will join NATO and the European Union in the near future.
