It all began in Kyiv, where Ivanna was born and starred in the popular sitcom “Lesia+Roma”. When she was 15 years old, Sakhno and her parents moved to the US, but she never forgot about her motherland and home city.
During the Revolution of Dignity the actress joined rallies in support of Ukraine along with the Ukrainian diaspora of Los Angeles. On the 24th of February, 2022, Ivanna Sakhno publicly condemned russia’s actions and supported her country.
In May 2023, she became one of the ambassadors for the UNITED24 fundraising platform. The actress is concerned with the “Education and science” direction, alongside Edward and May-Britt Mosers and the Nobel prize winner Sir Paul Nurse.
“I’m honored to join President Zelenskyy and his team, UNITED24, as an Ambassador in the new direction of Education and Science. My heart is dedicated to help rebuild Ukraine and bring a nourishing future to our children. Glory to Ukraine!” Ivanna wrote.
Sakhno arrived in Kyiv at the start of May 2023, joined the UNITED24 anniversary summit, visited the “Okhmadyt” hospital where she met the children that suffered injuries because of the war, and went to see the ruined school in Buzova village in Kyiv oblast.
Over the course of the full-scale war in Ukraine, 2772 educational facilities have suffered damages, and 454 have been completely destroyed. This is nearly 10% of the country’s educational facilities.
