The Munchausen residential complex entered public use in 2018. According to the residents, it was one of the coziest complexes in all of Irpin. 390 people used to live there, of which 90 were children.
At the start of the full-scale invasion, Munchausen found itself under occupation. Witnesses say that a russian tank parked in a neighboring yard would aimlessly shoot all over the residential building. By that point, all of the residents had evacuated. 37 apartments were burnt to ashes because of the shelling.
Kateryna, with her husband Mykola and 16 y.o. daughter Yevheniia, bought an apartment there in 2016, while the complex was still being constructed. The apartment was too expensive for the family, but they loved it so much they took out loans to pay for it. The family moved into the home of their dreams in April 2018, made renovations, and invested everything they had into the apartment.
While their daughter was growing up, the family lived in a one-room apartment. In Irpin, Yevheniia finally had a room of her own. The last loan for the apartment was paid off in January 2022. At the start of February, all renovations were finished. They dreamed of having a second child.
On February 25th, after spending a night in the basement, the family fled Irpin with nothing but a backpack. In March, Kateryna saw nothing but cinders where her dream home once stood.
“When my daughter learned that Elina Svitolina would be raising funds to rebuild our home, she was incredibly happy. She finally believed that our dream of coming back home might finally come true.”
