My name is Ashley, and I’m from Somerset, Massachusetts. I’m a history teacher and a UNITED24 donor. Together with my husband, Rob, we support Ukraine in many ways—from monthly donations through the platform and launching our own fundraisers to direct help for Ukrainians.
After the full-scale invasion began, I met Oleksandr from Irpin online. By June, he and his parents, Volodymyr and Nina, were already living with me. It felt like I gained a second family. Three months after relocating, they found a small apartment nearby, and Oleksandr enrolled in the school where I teach. Vova and Nina received work permits and are already looking for jobs.
I decided to travel to Kyiv in July during my vacation, even though I had never left the United States before. My goal was to document the sites of destruction in Kyiv and the surrounding areas so my students could see more with their own eyes. I plan to turn the footage into several virtual tours and publish them for free for U.S. middle school teachers.
In my opinion, it’s extremely important for young people around the world to know what is happening in Ukraine, and my goal is to tell the story of this unjust war of aggression as effectively as possible.
