STORY

During the battle for Borodianka, russians dropped aircraft bombs on the town, coupled with  mortars and artillery. Over 80% of the housing in the town was damaged or destroyed. Lilia and around 20 more people were hiding in the basement of their apartment block at 2 Semashko Street. One day, they counted around 72 explosions within only two minutes.

On February 28th, a shell hit Lilia’s apartment on the 6th floor, leaving a giant hole in the wall. She went upstairs to see what happened, then returned back to the basement, sat in the corner and spent the next 24 hours in silence without saying a single word.

She admits that it was immensely difficult for her to realize that all her life was ruined in the matter of seconds. The building was then exposed to more strikes, which damaged apartments on 7th and 8th levels, as well as the bay between floors 6 and 7.

Lilia and her husband managed to fix the hole in the wall through their own efforts in order to survive the winter. Although, of course, it was only a temporary solution. Now they have a hope to soon return home, since thanks to the donor contributions, UNITED24 has raised enough funds to restore their building.
